Meet & Hang Out With Your Host – Team Critical Bench

teamThe event is awesome and you are going to learn a ton.  That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself.  We work hard and we play hard.  You’ll have two full days of practicum on Friday and Saturday which are explained in more detail below.

Team Critical Bench is hosting the event and we are looking forward to meeting you face to face.  VAULT members and other Critical Bench fans are going to be soaking up knowledge while hanging out during the off-hours.  You better bring a big appetite on Friday night because we’re headed to an upscale sports bar called, The Courtside Grille.  We’ll pick up the tab so don’t sweat it.

Saturday night after we complete the course and EARN our certification we are going to celebrate by walking across the street from the hotel to Vertigo/Yard of Ale.  What’s happening there you ask? 

Mike Gillette himself will be performing a Feats of Strength Show live on stage for the public and we are the VIP guests!  That’s right our coach is going to show everyone how mental strength can manifest itself into the physical.  You know…by bending steel bars, rolling up a frying pan like a newspaper, putting his hand in an animal trap, dropping a bowling ball on his stomach and snapping arrows with his neck…Cool stuff like that!

Sports Imagery – The performance challenges faced by most athletes are not the result of poor conditioning, a lack of physical skills or technical ability.

When the pressure is on, the person who fails most usually does so due to mental factors such as anxiety, negativity, lack of focus or an inability to let go of previous mistakes. A key aspect of strength psychology is imagery; the process of training purely within your mind. And it is the successful harnessing of imagination that provides the fuel for successful use imagery.

Gman3Achievement Motivation – Our beliefs about success and failure – are we striving to succeed or just trying to avoid failure?

Achievement Orientation – Our perception of how static our ability-level is. With a goal-based approach, we believe we can grow and improve our abilities. If we take an identity-based approach, we believe our abilities are a part of who we are and there is little we can do to change them.

Behavior Modification – A process by which we retrain ourselves to adjust behaviors to be aligned with our performance goals. Through the application of reinforcement (whether positive or negative), we condition ourselves to behave in an intentional, goal-focused manner.

Anchoring – A technique used to make a strategy automatic. The subject associates a small physical action with a particular mental thought process. The physical action triggers the mind to begin a specific process, for example, a relaxation technique.

Conquering Athletic Anxiety – Despite feeling positive about an upcoming competition and training hard for it, when the moment comes go out and “make it real” an athlete can still be overcome by emotions that they don’t understand.

GilletteAnd when that happens, they suddenly can’t seem to think straight or do what they’ve done hundreds of times in practice. People who experience these overwhelming often wonder if there is something wrong with them.

The Conquering Athletic Anxiety module teaches that this response is perfectly natural and under the right circumstances these feelings can be utilized.

This module takes the user out of the subjective experience of feeling nervous and transitions them into an empowered state they can re-enter and rehearse, allowing them to master the feeling of being in control of their emotions.

The Winning Mindset – The Winning Mindset teaches athletes how to master the psychological skills that will help them make the most of their physical skills and attributes – to win.

This hypnotic break-out session examines the common characteristics of winners and at what gets in the way of winning when, externally, everything looks great. The criticality of setting self-concern aside during competition is emphasized.

We’ll show you how to connect the process of physical relaxation with the process of getting into the ‘flow-state’. This connects the user to the experience of being ‘in the zone’ where seemingly effortless, high-quality performances are possible.

Becoming Strength Psychology Certified

logo-wow500Each student will be given the opportunity to use their coaching skills when they serve as a team leader for a given exercise.  This also gives the other class members a chance to grade the team leader on their coaching ability.  There will also be a written multiple choice test on the last day.

To become “Strength Psychology Certified” you have to earn it. If you do not receive a passing grade you’ll have 30-days to submit a retest after studying the course materials.

At the end of the weekend you’ll receive your certificate with the Strength Psychology official seal as shown to the right.
